Latvia’s President Valdis Zatlers today issued papers of credentials to the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Estonia in Latvia, Mati Vaarmann.

The Presidential Chancery of the Republic of Latvia hereby announces its rejection of a report that was disseminated on September 4 by the Russian information agency Regnum and republished in several of the Russian language Internet portals in Latvia. This report falsely stated that the head of the Chancery, Edgars Rinkēvičs, has said that a visit by President Valdis Zatlers to Russia in the month of September would represent the last opportunity to improve the relationship between the two countries. 

President Valdis Zatlers began the second day of his official state visit to the Czech Republic by appearing at the Czech-Latvian Business Forum, where Latvia is represented by businesspeople from the fields of metals processing, machinery building, information technologies, energy supplies, heating delivery and wood processing. 

President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers has written to President of Slovakia Ivan Gašparovič to express his deepest condolences to the victims of the tragic shooting incident that occurred yesterday in the city centre of Bratislava and to the entire Slovakian nation.

President Valdis Zatlers has written to President of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves to express his and the Latvian people’s condolences to the Estonian people over the death in Afghanistan of Junior Sgt Hedris Siika during an explosion in the Helmand Province.
