Following the invitation from the President of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves the President of Latvia Vaira Vike-Freiberga visited Ilves’s farm Ärma today that is located close to the border of Latvia where an informal meeting between the Presidents of both countries took place.
During the meeting Vaira Vike-Freiberga and Toomas Hendrik Ilves discussed the issues concerning the future of Europe, co-operation among the small countries and their role in the European Union, EU Neighbourhood initiative as well as the prospects of the development of the Baltic Sea region. The President of Latvia laid flowers at the remembrance place of the former Estonian prime minister and last ambassador of Estonia to Latvia before World War II Hanss Rebane – Toomas Hendrik Ilves’s brother.
