An expert discussion encouraged by President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis on the principles to determine affiliation to the Latvian nation took place in the Riga Castle on Tuesday.
The President urged to hold such a discussion in response to the parliamentary debate on the amendments to the Law on Change of a Record of Name, Surname, and Nationality, and he pointed out that it was necessary to look carefully at the issues affecting the social cohesion in Latvia and basics of the statehood of Latvia.
President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis met with Minister of Defence Raimonds Bergmanis on Tuesday, who presented him with the Commander-candidate of the National Armed Forces (NAF). During the meeting, the parties discussed the criteria for assessment of an applicant before the President of Latvia would decide whether to promote the candidate for approval to the Saeima.

We celebrate the day of proclamation of the Republic of Latvia today, November 18. Today is a holiday, when we congratulate each other with the fact that we have our own state. President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis emphasized that the opening of new production site of “Latvijas Finieris” in Estonia was a bright confirmation of the export capacity and development potential of Latvian timber industry when launching a new production plant of “Latvijas Finieris” in Estonia, birch veneer manufacture "Kohila Vineer".
