Dear Madam Speaker of the Parliament, dear Prime Minister, Excellencies, Latvian soldiers, Ladies and Gentlemen,


November 11 is the day, when we dignify Latvian soldiers, defenders of our country. Today we remember the day 97 years ago, when the new Latvian army won the historic victory in the fight against Bermont forces here in Riga. It was a decisive moment, when starting liberation of entire country from the invaders in the next few months. We commemorate our heroes on the Lāčplēsis Day.


An expert discussion on the principles to determine affiliation to the Latvian nation will be held in the Riga Castle on November 22. The experts will exchange their views on the sound and legally correct solution to strengthen cohesion of the Latvian society.


“Voters of the United States have made their choice. I congratulate the newly elected US President Donald Trump with his victory in the elections,” said President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis today after the preliminary results of the US presidential elections were announced


“Local governments face challenges currently, as they must take decisive and forward-looking decisions on provision of the most important services to their population. I am glad that Preiļi city and region have always been able to seize the opportunities for development of local infrastructure,” said President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis during his regional visit to Preiļi on Tuesday.


Since restoration of diplomatic relations between Latvia and France 25 years ago, France has become an important partner for Latvia. The two countries share both close cooperation in security and economic ties and successful cooperation in the European Union, NATO, and the OECD, as President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis highlighted during accreditation of new Ambassador of France Odile Soupison in the Riga Castle today.


“In the week completing with the Orphans Day on Sunday, we gather together for the second year to stand up for children, who grow up in children’s homes and are still waiting for their family. We know that a family is the most secure environment, where children grow up, we learn relationship in the family, we learn to trust, love, and forgive,” said President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis today, receiving foster families, guardians, adoptive parents and their supporters in the Riga Castle.


“We hope that the 16+1 format of cooperation and particularly significant visit of the Prime Minister of China and the Chinese business delegation will give an impetus to strengthen the cooperation between Latvia and China significantly,” stressed President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis today during his meeting with Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of China Li Keqiang.


President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis will award the ten best authors of competition of student creative work “My Speech as the President of Latvia on the Birthday of Latvia” in the Riga Castle at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9.


“A continuous and fierce struggle for development, a higher level of welfare, financing, and investment is going on among the world's economies. Latvia requires strengthening its competitiveness so that our country would be equivalent to other regional and global economies,” noted President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis during a meeting with the representatives of the Foreign Investors Council in Latvia on Tuesday. “National competitiveness as a precondition of economic development is an important aspect of national security,” stressed the President of Latvia.


“During the project “Rediscovery of National Treasure” adolescents had an opportunity to visit many nationally important objects in Latvia. It is a great pleasure for me to introduce the winners of the first stage with the Riga Castle, which is a significant cultural and historical landmark,” said First Lady of Latvia Iveta Vējone today during her meeting with the winners of the first stage of project “Rediscovery of National Treasure”, students of group No. 208 of Jelgava Technical School.
