Annual Report 2009

2009 was a year during which the President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers was actively involved in domestic political processes in Latvia. As head of state, the President made use of the rights and obligations that are assigned to him in the Latvian Constitution in three main areas – promoting political and social stability, as well as business in the country; using his authority to encourage a balanced process of taking decisions; and promoting ongoing dialogue between the government and the public. President Zatlers pursued this goals over the course of the year by taking active part in various processes, particularly in terms of promoting political dialogue in areas related to economic recovery, reforms of the educational system, and ensuring social support.
