The 10th Student Song and Dance Festival
The 10th Student Song and Dance Festival was held in Rīga from July 6-11, 2010.
Thousands of students and teachers from general, special, interest-based and professional education institutions are preparing carefully for auditions to select the best singers, dancers and musicians. Those who get the nod will meet in Rīga for performances of song, dance and music, as well as for a colourful festival parade down the streets of the capital city.
President Zatlers is the patron of the 10th Student Song and Dance Festival. He has spoken highly of the achievements of students and teachers, and he has spoken to the people of Latvia about the importance of preserving and improving the non-tangible cultural heritage and traditions of the Latvian people not just at home, but also in the cultural space of Europe and the world.
The history of student song and dance festivals began 50 years ago, in 1960. It is a quinquennial event and is the largest cultural and arts festival for children and adolescents in Latvia.
