To celebrate the Centenary of the Republic of Latvia, H.E. President of the Republic of Iceland Mr Gudni Th. Johannesson will pay a state visit to the Republic of Latvia from 15 to 18 November 2018.

On Friday, November 16, President of Latvia Mr Raimonds Vējonis will welcome President of Iceland Mr Gundi Johannesson during an official welcoming ceremony at the Riga Castle. The visit will continue with the official photography and signing the guestbook, the exchange of gifts, the tête-à-tête meeting between the President of Latvia and the President of Iceland, the bilateral meeting of the delegations, and the press statement. In its turn, the festive flower laying ceremony will be held at the Freedom Monument.

After meeting with the officials, the President of Iceland will deliver a lecture in the Small Hall of the University of Latvia. At the end of the first day of the visit, the Presidents of both countries will attend a concert “Our Opera Marks 100”, which will be held within the framework of concert round “Born in Latvia” at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet House.

On Saturday, November 17, President of Iceland Mr Gudni Johannesson will attend a joint museum exhibition “Latvia’s Century” at the Latvian National Museum of History, then he will participate in a workshop on Iceland-Latvia cooperation in business, culture, and education hosted by the Embassy of Iceland and the Honorary Consulate of Iceland in Latvia in the afternoon.

On Sunday, November 18, the President of Iceland will take part in the festive events to mark the Centenary of the Republic of Latvia together with other high-profile guests.

Media representatives are requested to fill out the following application form drafted by the Chancery of the President of Latvia for each person to be accredited by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, 13 November 2018, to accredit for the coverage of the visit. Please note that the applications for accreditation received after the deadline may not be processed.

Iceland was the first country in the world, which officially recognised the restoration of the independence of the Republic of Latvia in 1991.
