Valsts prezidents: ārkārtas situācijas izbeigšanai ir steidzamības kārtā jāpieņem atbilstošs likums
President of Latvia Egils Levits and Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš discussed yesterday’s decision of the government on allocation of rescue funding for mitigation of Coronavirus disease Covid-19 impact in a video call today, including the envisaged financial support to healthcare sector and healthcare professionals.

As regards to the lifting of the Covid-19 pandemic emergency rules, President Levits stressed: ‘We need to act swiftly. Parliament must fast track the special law that regulates the lifting of the state of emergency.”

President of Latvia also addressed the issue of higher education reform, which is currently being debated in the parliament. ‘A rational compromise is starting to emerge from proposals and discussions over the higher education reform. I hope that Saeima will have no problem moving forward with the reform package,’ said Egils Levits.

President and Prime Minister also exchanged views on implementation of Latvia’s digital transformation strategy. President Levits underlined that political ownership is very important for successful transformation, as it would ensure efficient coordination and implementation of a vision of modern and digital Latvia.
