Raimonds Vējonis
President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis will visit Germany on Friday, 14 and 15 February 2019, to attend the annual international Munich Security Conference.

“The Munich Security Conference provides opportunities for security policymakers to seek and find solutions to modern security challenges through an informal dialogue. Active participation in NATO and EU discussions on security issues is essential for Latvia instead of passive observation of the ongoing processes,” stressed the President of Latvia.

The President of Latvia has noted that today we are facing many security challenges. There is a need for international defence cooperation against both military and hybrid challenges. One should think of possible instability associated with arms control and non-proliferation treaties. Similarly, the consequences of climate change and conflicts can have an impact on all of us.

During his working visit to Germany, the President of Latvia has also scheduled a meeting with Ms Ilse Aigner, President of the Bavarian Landtag.

“Latvia has great potential for expanding economic, cultural, scientific, and research cooperation with Bavaria, the federal state of Germany. Latvia must develop much more active cooperation with the German federal states, therefore during my state visit to Germany next week, I will also visit the city of Hamburg,” noted Raimonds Vējonis.

The President of Latvia has pointed out that nowadays almost every area of economic cooperation is related to digital solutions, development of new technologies, innovations, science, and research. “There are good opportunities for Latvian and German businesses to increase their competitiveness in global markets by cooperating in those areas,” indicated Raimonds Vējonis.
