Valsts prezidents Trīs jūru galotņu sanāksmē uzsvērs infrastruktūras vajadzības Baltijas reģionā
On Monday, 19 October, at 14:15, President of Latvia Egils Levits will take part in the fifth Three Seas Summit organised by Estonia in a virtual format this year. Presidents of Three Seas Initiative countries will adopt a joint declaration and discuss the future perspectives of the initiative.

Agenda of the Summit includes Smart Money panel discussions between ministers of the Three Seas Initiative countries. Latvia will be represented by Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs and management of Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund. Aim of the discussion is to highlight the importance of attractive investments required to boost the regional infrastructure and connectivity.

Environmental Protection and Regional Development Minister Juris Pūce will represent Latvia at the Smart Connectivity panel discussion. Discussion will focus on Report on Digital Transformation in Energy and Transport Sector prepared by Estonian government.

List of Three Seas Initiative Priority Projects will also be presented to the public during the Summit. This is a relatively comprehensive list of infrastructure development needs that are essential for the region and more dynamic, sustainable regional connectivity.

Three Seas initiative is a regional economic cooperation framework created in 2016. The purpose of this platform is to identify and implement physical infrastructure projects to reduce the existing connectivity gaps in European Union’s (EU) Northern and Southern regions and their energy, transport and digital networks. Previous four summits took place in Croatia (2016), Poland (2017), Romania (2018) and Slovenia (2019). Initiative will significantly contribute to better cohesion at the EU level and stronger transatlantic ties. Three Seas initiative brings together 12 EU Member States located around Adriatic, Baltic and the Black Sea: Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary. Initiative is supported by three partners: the US, Germany and European Commission.

Whereas the aim of the Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund is to enable development of strong regional economic backbone and support implementation of strategic infrastructure projects. Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund is open to cooperation with private and institutional investors, as well as international financial institutions. Development finance institution ALTUM officially became a member of the Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund on 16 September 2020.
