Valsts prezidenta Raimonda Vējoņa paziņojums presei pēc tikšanās ar Viņa Majestāti Nīderlandes karali Vilemu Aleksandru
I am pleased to welcome the state visit of His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, which is a special honour for our country on its centenary. It clearly affirms the close friendship and excellent relationship between Latvia and the Netherlands. We are also united by the historical links that date back to the Hanseatic League, as well as the friendly and dynamic relationship today.

Regular political dialogue has been established between Latvia and the Netherlands, and we share a common understanding of European values and international challenges. Latvia and the Netherlands are active members of the European Union and NATO with a common goal for the future of a united, secure, and economically developed Europe. Latvia appreciates the contribution of the Netherlands to strengthening the security of the Baltic States.

Latvia and the Netherlands are open and dynamic economies, whose cooperation is evidenced both by growing bilateral trade indicators and by the volume of Dutch investment in Latvia. The business forum planned today on innovative and sustainable solutions in the transport and logistics sector will also contribute to the development of our economic relations.

I am pleased that Latvia and the Netherlands enjoy broad and dynamic cooperation in culture and education. The airBaltic direct flight Riga-Amsterdam opened in 2008 has had a positive impact on not only the bidirectional flow of tourists, but also on the establishment of direct business contacts, a dialogue between our populations, and student exchanges. There is active cooperation between our cultural and educational authorities, theatres, libraries, and museums. This is a real pleasure and satisfaction for me.

I am convinced that our excellent bilateral relations will develop successfully and continue to flourish in the years to come!
