Konkurss skolēniem – iztēlojies sevi Valsts prezidenta amatā un sagatavo uzrunu Latvijas 101. dzimšanas dienā!
Chancery of the President of Latvia invites all Year 5 to Year 12 pupils of Latvian and diaspora primary, secondary, special and vocational schools to enter writing competition and ‘step into the shoes’ of the President of Latvia to write a speech titled ‘Image of a modern-day Latvian hero’.

What is heroism and what are the characteristics of a hero? What do we understand by ‘heroism’ in democratic and free modern-day country governed by the rule of law? Aim of the competition is to promote critical thinking, civic awareness, understanding of social equality, patriotism, interest about Latvia’s statehood and the presidency as an institution in youth.

Chancery of the President of Latvia invites pupils to explore the topic of ‘Image of a modern-day Latvian hero’, try to imagine yourself as the President of Latvia and write a minimum 500-word speech, or record a video address no longer than 3 minutes. Winning speeches will be read, or shown, at the concert honouring the 101st anniversary of the Republic of Latvia hosted by the President of Latvia on 18 November, at the Latvian National Theatre.

Deadline: 13 October 2019. Send your speech, or video, and application form electronically to: konkurss[at]president.lv.

Competitors will be divided into three groups: Year 5-6, Year 7-9 and Year 10-12. Winners will have a chance to meet the President of Latvia in the Riga Castle before the concert honouring the 101st anniversary of the Republic of Latvia and find out the authors of three best entries in all three groups. Winner of each group will be given an opportunity to deliver their speech at the concert honouring the 101st anniversary of the Republic of Latvia hosted by the President of Latvia on 18 November, at the Latvian National Theatre. Authors of the three winning entries in each group will be announced on President’s webpage www.president.lv on 4 November 2019. Chancery reminds pupil, teachers and parents to carefully read the competition rules available at https://ej.uz/konkurss_varoniba.
