From 2019 to 2023, he served as a Defence Advisor at the Mission of the Republic of Latvia to NATO, Head of the Defence Division.
He joined the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Latvia in 2000. During this time, he was Deputy State Secretary for Logistics and Support, Director of the Department of Defence Planning and Analysis, lecturer at the Baltic Defence College in Tartu, the Ministry’s Representative for Resources at the Latvian Mission to NATO, Head of Unit at the Department of Plans and NATO Integration.
In 2014 and 2015, he served as Director of the Security Policy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia.
Aivars Puriņš holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Latvia and a Master’s degree in Global Security from Cranfield University in England. He has completed the Baltic Defence College’s Higher Management studies course.
Aivars Puriņš has been awarded a Certificate of Merit of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia.
