On 17 September, the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, met with Minister for Welfare, Ramona Petraviča, at the Riga Castle.
During the meeting, President Levits and Minister Petraviča discussed the envisaged changes in welfare system that will come to force in 2020. These changes will have impact on unemployment benefits, pensions, wages of social care workers, fostering allowances and other types of government benefits paid to inhabitants. President stressed that Latvia should adopt tax policy which is strongly based on solidarity.
Meeting also focused on demographic policy, family courts, quality of palliative care and progress with de-institutionalisation programme.
