On 18 February, while attending the Munich Security Conference, President of Latvia Egils Levits, President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda and Prime  Minister of Estonia Kaja Kallas met with the Vice President of the United States of America Kamala Harris.

As regards to tensions around Ukraine, Russian aggression threatens Ukraine and the whole Europe and Western democracies, stresses President of Latvia Egils Levits. All sides agreed that continued support and assistance to Ukraine is vital, reaction of the West must be coordinated and decisive, Russia must realise that losses from invasion will far surpass the gains as it weighs all risks and benefits, and sanctions need to be tough.

Vice President Harris reassured Baltic leaders of NATO solidarity and that the United States commitment to Article 5 is sacrosanct. Kamala Harris also indicated that US is ready to increase its military presence in the Baltics.

President Levits underscored the importance of prosperity and growth for stronger security when the discussion tuned to the Three Seas Summit and Business Forum, which will take place in Riga this summer. Three Seas Initiative will boost the regional resilience and participation of US delegation at the summit would send a strong signal about its commitment and support. It would also strengthen the transatlantic ties, said President Levits. US Vice President promised high-level participation of US officials at this year’s Threes Seas Summit.

US Vice President and Baltic leaders also discussed the need to strengthen the cyber defence capabilities.
