On 21 July, President Edgars Rinkēvičs spoke by telephone with the President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to discuss the outcomes of the NATO Summit in Ankara, Latvia–Türkiye bilateral relations, and regional security. 

President of Latvia expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality and the excellent organisation of the NATO Summit, which took place in Ankara, Türkiye, on 7–8 July. During the conversation, E. Rinkēvičs emphasised that the Ankara Summit demonstrated the unity of NATO Allies and their shared understanding of current and future security challenges.

Discussing Latvia–Türkiye bilateral cooperation, President of Latvia expressed satisfaction with the excellent state of bilateral relations and the positive momentum in economic cooperation. President Rinkēvičs also highly commended Türkiye’s contribution to strengthening security in the Baltic region, particularly in the field of airspace defence.
