According to the decision of the President of Latvia and Chapter of Orders of 22 October 2021, highest state honours were awarded to 60 individuals. Order of the Three Stars has been awarded to 33 individuals, Order of Viesturs to 11 individuals and Cross of Recognition to 16 individuals.
Highest state awards of Latvia have been bestowed upon recipients for their impeccable service to the Latvian State and people. Their selfless, professional work, civic dedication and other public activities have been recognised with the highest state honours. Work and contribution of each recipient is equally immaculate and celebrated.
Sarmīte Ēlerte, Chair of the Chapter of Orders, notes: ‘President of Latvia and Chapter of Orders is delighted to mark the 103rd Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic of Latvia by recognising and awarding the honours to the individuals who have done their job excellently and have served the Latvian State and people to the best of their conscience and abilities. The highest state honours are a national recognition of the work and contribution of these individuals on behalf of Latvia. Talent, determination, self-assertiveness, creativity, courage and perseverance is what sets them apart. We, the President of Latvia Egils Levits and Chapter of Orders, are deeply grateful to all recipients for strengthening democracy, rule of law and national pride of Latvia.’
Some highest state award recipients have exhibited high professional standards. Their selfless and courageous professional service has been indispensable in facing the most complicated civil crisis in recent history, the Covid-19 pandemic. Other recipients include individuals whose professional life has been devoted to development of the independent Latvian state after the regaining of independence, promotion of civic values. Exceptional scientists and creative workers. Award has also been bestowed upon individuals who have spent decades strengthening the unity of Latvian diaspora and its bond with motherland.
According to Paragraph 1 of the Article 56 of the Law on State Decorations, considering the national restrictions and prevention and control measures imposed due to the spread of the pandemic, Chapter of Orders will decide on the date for the award ceremony as soon as possible. The announcement will be published in the official journal of Latvia “Latvijas Vēstnesis”.
