On 20 November, President Edgars Rinkēvičs chaired a meeting of the National Security Council at the Riga Castle

In accordance with the provisions of the Law on National Security, the Prime Minister presented the National Security Council with the updated National Security Plan, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on 5 November.

The National Security Council reviewed the progress made in strengthening air defence capabilities to more effectively counteract security threats posed by unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as the implementation of improved algorithms for incident response.

The National Security Council received information from the Ministry of Defence and the National Armed Forces regarding Latvia’s military support to Ukraine, including the training of Ukrainian soldiers. The Council members unanimously emphasised the need to continue providing all possible assistance to Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.

The meeting also addressed the latest information related to cable damages in the Baltic Sea on 17 and 18 November and the security of critical infrastructure. The National Armed Forces have intensified monitoring of Latvia’s communications infrastructure and are actively exchanging up-to-date information with Allies on the security situation in the Baltic Sea.

The meeting also included briefings from State security institutions on the current situation.
