On 13 July, President Edgars Rinkēvičs hosted Latvia’s honorary consuls abroad at Riga Castle.

The President thanked Latvia’s honorary consuls for their contribution to strengthening economic, cultural and political ties between Latvia and the countries they represent.

“Regardless of how long you have served in your role, you have always demonstrated ideas, energy and great dedication both to Latvia and your countries of residence. You are not only Latvia’s ambassadors in your host countries, but also ambassadors of your host countries in Latvia. The ideas you have shared, the programmes you have prepared for our visits abroad, and the support you have provided to our delegations have been of tremendous value. We also greatly appreciate your support for Ukraine since 2014, in 2022, and up to the present day,” the President said.

“These are challenging times, and we can succeed only if we stand united. Our priorities include not only economic development, but also the development of the defence industry and many other areas in which we should deepen our cooperation. Cultural cooperation is just as important as political and economic cooperation,” the President emphasised, encouraging the honorary consuls to continue their work.
