On 18 December, President of Latvia Egils Levits and Mrs Andra Levite attended the gala concert of charity campaign ‘Angels over Latvia’ at the very heart of Riga Old Town, the Town Square.
‘Latvia is not a very big country. That is why we know every child and family that needs special help. Our state takes a good care of these families and children, but there are limits to what it can do and sometimes it needs the whole society to help. Latvians are very compassionate and not shy about showing solidarity. Everyone in Latvia knows children and families that need help. I want to thank the organisers of this campaign and say special thank you to those who donated. I wish you all – your families and homes – a very warm Christmas!’ President of Latvia Egils Levits said in his address to everyone gathered and watching the concert on TV.
President of Latvia and Mrs Andra Levite also took calls to ‘Angels over Latvia’ hotline during the concert.
‘Health is one of the basic elements of successful life. Our ability to achieve our dreams and give love to children depends on it. Health is a gift we receive – a gift that we need to nurture. Regular doctor’s appointments and check-ups are crucial. Women carrying a child must be in good health to give life to a healthy baby. Still, there are people who come into this life more lucky than others. Unfortunately. We do not know why. If you are one of the lucky ones, you must ask yourself: ‘Can I help and do I want to help?’ If the answer to both is ‘Yes’, it is ‘go time’. Thank you for the warmth and conversations we had on phone!’ gynaecologist and obstetrician Andra Levite said.
You can help 187 children during this year’s ‘Angels over Latvia’. President of Latvia wishes all of them good health, lots of joy and dreams fulfilled. Egils Levits also reminds everyone in Latvia that we are stronger together.
