On 20 February, President Edgars Rinkēvičs attended the opening of the live-fire training area at the “Sēlija” military training ground.
“We are all well aware that the armed forces and their soldiers can only perform their duties effectively when they are well trained, when they practise their skills and abilities on a daily basis, train at military grounds and throughout the training process. The “Sēlija” training ground is essential, firstly, to ensure the training of our armed forces personnel and, secondly, to become the largest training ground in the Baltics, where our Allies can also train and exercise.
This is only the beginning of the journey. We all expect both the Ministry of Defence and the armed forces to work diligently in accordance with the plan and schedule, so that the “Sēlija” training ground can begin operating at full capacity as soon as possible. It should serve as a place where professional service members, soldiers of the national defence service and our Allies can train,” emphasised the President at the opening of the live-fire training area at the “Sēlija” military training ground.
