President of Latvia called the newly appointed Minister for Economics Jānis Vitenbergs to discuss various issues linked to the handling of the Coronavirus Covid-19 crisis. Minister Vitenbergs, who has already been very active in his new position, presented President Levits his position on current priorities and economic recovery after the crisis.

President Levits and Minister Vitenbergs talked about changes in the downtime rules to ensure that all groups of the society eligible for assistance are better covered by the law. President and Minister discussed the correlation between downtime compensation and unemployment laws.

Egils Levits and Jānis Vitenbergs both agreed that work on the recovery strategy must start now to ensure that as soon as public health is no longer in danger economy becomes stable again and returns to growth. President Levits and Minister Vitenbergs both confirmed that it is necessary to balance the inevitable virus containment plans with efforts to restore economic stability.

President of Latvia also called Minister for Interior Sandis Ģirģens to exchange the latest crisis management information. Minister Ģirģens briefed the President that State Police is responding to 2 000 incidents a day to curb the spread of Coronavirus COVID-19.

President Levits and Minister Ģirģens spoke about institutional aspects of crisis emergency management and ways of strengthening civil protection by involving health and interior sectors.

President of Latvia Egils Levits underlined the importance of close coordination and need to ensure cooperation between various sectors in successful tackling of the crisis.
