Valsts prezidents apmeklē Jūrmalas Centrālo bibliotēku

On 1 December, the President of Latvia visited the Jūrmala Central Library, where he met the children of Group 6 from the pre-school education institution “Taurenītis” in the Fairy-tale Room. President Rinkēvičs shared his childhood memories of books, read Latvian folk tales and talked about the Christmas season with the children.

The President emphasised the importance of reading in the daily lives of both children and adults: “Reading is an opportunity to encounter new ideas and broaden one’s horizons. When children listen with enthusiasm and ask questions, we adults also experience stories differently – vividly, energetically, and with a fresh perspective. I was truly delighted to meet such curious and open young listeners.”

This year, Latvia is celebrating 500 years of the Latvian book – five centuries during which language and stories have helped us understand the world.

“I encourage us all – parents, teachers, grandparents – to find a moment for reading. Read to children and read together with them. It is a shared experience that a child will remember far longer than any loud moment on a screen,” the President noted.
