Valsts prezidents Egils Levits un Ukrainas prezidents Volodimirs Zelenskis

President of Latvia Egils Levits conveyed his congratulations to Ukraine on 30th anniversary of its independence today during the meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev. Independence celebrations will take place on 24 August.

President of Latvia stressed that his participation in the summit launching the Crimean Platform and celebration of the 30th anniversary of independence of Ukraine on the 24 August is a clear demonstration of Latvia’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Egils Levits reaffirmed Latvia’s continued support for Ukraine’s European aspirations and desire to expand cooperation with NATO, and urged Ukraine to keep up the current pace of reforms. ‘We are committed to continue providing our technical assistance to Ukraine to help it complete the necessary reforms. This also includes expert support in areas such as stronger rule of law, judicial reform and better export potential,’ underlined President Levits. Latvia is also ready to lend Ukraine its experience in the field of good governance, rule of law, decentralisation, business environment and regional development.

Latvia is also planning to resume the recovery programmes for wounded troops of Ukrainian Armed Forces and National Guard suspended due to Covid-19.
