On 22 January, during the World Economic Forum in Davos, President Edgars Rinkēvičs took part in a discussion on support for Ukraine and met with Annette Kroeber-Riel, Vice President for Government Affairs and Public Policy for Europe at the technology company Google.
During the discussion on support for Ukraine and its potential accession to the European Union, the President highlighted Ukraine’s role in strengthening European security. “We need to take a broader view of Ukraine’s potential membership of the European Union. We are accustomed to thinking of the European Union as a political, economic and monetary union. However, if Ukraine joins the European Union, it will strengthen the EU’s defence identity,” said E. Rinkēvičs.
The President’s participation in the forum concluded with an informal meeting of world economic leaders on Europe’s strategic role in a changing geopolitical environment and under conditions of economic competition.
