Valsts prezidenta Edgara Rinkēviča tikšanās ar tieslietu sistēmas augstākajām amatpersonām

On 2 February 2026, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met at the Riga Castle with the President of the Constitutional Court Irēna Kucina, the President of the Supreme Court Aigars Strupišs, the Minister of Justice Inese Lībiņa-Egnere, the Chairman of the Saeima Legal Affairs Committee Andrejs Judins and the Prosecutor General Armīns Meisters.

During the meeting, the President and senior officials of the justice system reviewed the sector’s achievements in 2025 and priorities for 2026. “Strengthening Latvia’s national security remains an unwavering priority, as evidenced, among other things, by the establishment of the State Security Protection Department within the Prosecutor General's Office,” said E. Rinkēvičs.

The meeting addressed the implementation of Constitutional Court rulings. The President emphasised that the execution of Constitutional Court judgments requires timely and high-quality cooperation between the legislative and executive branches to ensure that the shortcomings identified by the Court are addressed promptly and substantively. In addition, the participants discussed the Judicial Council’s strategy for 2026–2030, measures to strengthen judicial independence, including in the budgetary process, and organisational reforms of the court system aimed at making more effective use of the resources available to the courts.
