President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs concluded his working visit to the United States of America (USA) on 27 September by visiting the Los Angeles Latvian School where he met with the Latvian diaspora in the United States (US).
President thanked the Los Angeles Latvian School for its role in keeping Latvian identity going strong throughout the years. “I am honoured to join you today for this milestone anniversary for the school. Los Angeles Latvian School opened its doors 75 years ago to preserve and nurture Latvian identity, and ensure that Latvian language is passed down the generations. And, also to keep alive the faith and hope that Latvia will be free again. 75 years have passed, and we now see the third and fourth generation coming to the School. Soon it will be followed by the fifth generation that will continue to carry and further the Latvian identity. So, I want to say a big, big thank you to all of you for being part of the Latvian House and sending your children to Latvian schools,” he said. President Rinkēvičs also thanked all those who have donated to support the school, volunteers who help running the School and, of course, the administration, teachers and children.
Meanwhile, in his address to the members of the Latvian community in the US, President of Latvia said special thank you to Nora Mičule for her more than 30-year contribution to the development of the Latvian community and education in Los Angeles.
