On 13 May, President Edgars Rinkēvičs visited the premises of “Apgāds Zvaigzne ABC” Ltd in Riga to familiarise himself with the publishing house’s operations.
“Although the demands of the modern age and the fast pace of life have led to a shift towards digital tools and online materials, it is crucial that we preserve the tradition of reading books. Today, having toured the premises of the publishing house and met the professional team of “Apgāds Zvaigzne ABC”, I am convinced that good books truly help nurture more knowledgeable readers and play a vital role in developing language skills, particularly in Latvian,” said the President.
During his visit, the President of Latvia met with Vija Kilbloka, Chair of the Board of "Apgāds Zvaigzne ABC", and was introduced to the publishing house’s staff involved in the daily development of educational materials. “Publishers play a vital role in ensuring that schools are equipped with appropriate learning materials. The recent shortages of textbooks clearly demonstrate the need for an effective collaboration model between the public and private sectors to ensure the timely and high-quality preparation of textbooks, efficient review processes, and their prompt availability to schools,” emphasised the President.
President Rinkēvičs toured the offices of editors, artists, proofreaders, and other departments, and was introduced to the manuscript processing workflow, with particular focus on the contributions of the educational materials team to the publishing house’s work.
