On 28 October, President Edgars Rinkēvičs took part in a virtual leaders’ meeting aimed at strengthening international cooperation in managing artificial intelligence safety risks.

The President emphasised the need to find a common solution to the risks posed by artificial intelligence. “The impact of AI models on the information environment and democratic processes is already evident, as seen in social media posts spreading disinformation. During the recent Saeima elections, there were also indications of artificial intelligence chatbots attempting to employ information manipulation tactics,” noted E. Rinkēvičs.

The President also affirmed that Latvia will pay attention to this issue in fulfilling its responsibilities as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

Representatives from 31 countries took part in the virtual leaders’ meeting.
