On 25 June, President Edgars Rinkēvičs visited the headquarters of the National Guard’s 1st Riga Brigade and the Brigade’s 13th Infantry Battalion at the National Armed Forces military base “Linezers” in Riga.
During the visit, the Commander of the National Guard’s 1st Riga Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Ēriks Keisters, briefed the President on the Brigade’s area of responsibility, its units, and their tasks in ensuring national defence. “The role of the National Guard’s 1st Riga Brigade in protecting the country’s most important strategic facilities in the capital and its surrounding area is of particular significance,” emphasised E. Rinkēvičs.
The President familiarised himself with the equipment and operational readiness of the 1st Riga Brigade’s Medical Company, Engineer Company, and Weapons of Mass Destruction Defence Company, including their day-to-day duties, training activities, and cooperation with civilian institutions. President Rinkēvičs also visited the National Guard’s 13th Infantry Battalion, which is one of the largest National Guard units in terms of personnel strength.
