On 22 September, while attending the 81st Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York, President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs met with Crown Prince of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah.
During the meeting, President of Latvia praised the active political dialogue between Latvia and Kuwait. Edgars Rinkēvičs expressed solidarity with Kuwait and condemned Iranian attacks. “Iran and Russia are dangerous global aggressors. We must work together on countering threats posed by these countries. We cannot normalise such aggression,” President firmly underlined.
He also noted that Latvia and Kuwait are facing similar security challenges, especially in terms of air defence. This requires further development of defence industry to achieve greater capacity and find more efficient, cheaper ways to make air defence systems stronger.
According to President Rinkēvičs, situation in the Middle East has a direct effect on global security and supply chains. Latvia is ready to support any international efforts aimed at restoring freedom of navigation through Strait of Hormuz.
President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs also invited the Amir and Crown Prince of Kuwait to visit Latvia.
