President of Latvia Egils Levits and Interior Minister Kristaps Eklons met at the Riga Castle today. Meeting focused on approaches to strengthening of interior capacity based on priorities of State Police, State Fire and Rescue Service and other interior institutions. One of the key topics of the meeting was civil security, Ukrainian refugees in Latvia and support to non-governmental organisations helping Ukraine and its displaced population.
‘We have neglected our interior system for nearly two decades, contrary to National Armed Forces that have developed very rapidly in recent years and reached a good level of external security together with our NATO Allies. We must invest in strengthening of the capacity of our internal security system,’ President of Latvia said.
