On 5 August, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the Minister for Health, Hosams Abu Meri, at Jūrmala residence.
The President listened to the Minister’s views on the next steps in implementing changes to the hospital network. The parties also discussed the healthcare sector’s priorities for the 2027 national budget. The President called on the Ministry for Health to find a solution as soon as possible to secure additional funding for the treatment of oncology patients and the care of patients with diabetes.
The meeting also covered measures to ensure the continuity of healthcare services in times of crisis, improve access to medicines, and address issues that are regularly raised by residents and local authorities during the President’s regional visits, including access to paediatric dental care, cooperation between regional hospitals, and the availability of medical specialists in the regions.
