On 5 August, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the Minister for Welfare, Reinis Uzulnieks, at Jūrmala residence.
During the meeting, the parties discussed priorities in the areas of demography and support for families, including issues relating to out-of-family care. The Minister also outlined his vision for the possible introduction of a basic pension model.
President Rinkēvičs welcomed the government’s continued systematic work on demographic policy and family welfare. He called for the 2027 national budget to include measures that strengthen the security of families by reducing income and employment risks following the birth of a child, improving access to housing and healthcare, while maintaining regular dialogue with the social partners on further measures to support families.
