On 8 December, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with Prosecutor General Armīns Meisters at the Riga Castle. The President congratulated Armīns Meisters on his appointment as Prosecutor General, emphasising the role of the Prosecutor’s Office in strengthening legality and the rule of law.
“By responding to violations of the law and ensuring compliance with it, the Prosecutor’s Office defends the interests of society and protects the values of a democratic state. The Prosecutor’s Office also plays an important role in shaping Latvia’s penal policy, ensuring that in every criminal case, including those related to national security, the punishment imposed protects the public, deters similar offences, and restores justice,” said E. Rinkēvičs.
The President and the Prosecutor General discussed current issues in the work of the Prosecutor’s Office and the Prosecutor General’s priorities for 2026.
