Valsts prezidents tiekas ar Rīgas Skolēnu domes pārstāvjiem

On 19 March, the President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with representatives of the Riga Student Council at the Riga Castle to discuss student involvement in democratic processes, both through developing youth initiatives in schools and communities and by representing young people’s interests in municipal decision-making.

“Our young people are ready to achieve great things, and their perspective is important both in our society’s daily life and in strengthening Latvia as a whole. However, it is essential that calls and opportunities for participation genuinely influence decision-making – so that the future of students and young people is shaped through mutual understanding and dialogue between young people and decision-makers,” E. Rinkēvičs said after the meeting.

The President also discussed with representatives of the Riga Student Council the Council’s role and opportunities to expand student engagement across different neighbourhoods of Riga, strengthen the work of student councils in schools, and promote more active youth participation overall.
