Valsts prezidenta Edgara Rinkēviča tikšanās ar projekta "Liepāja - Eiropas kultūras galvaspilsēta 2027. gadā (Liepāja 2027)" pārraudzības padomi

On 4 February, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met at the Riga Castle with the supervisory board of the “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027 (Liepāja 2027)” project to discuss the readiness of the institutions responsible for the successful implementation of the European Capital of Culture 2027 programme in Liepāja, as well as in the municipalities of Kuldīga and South Kurzeme.

During the meeting, participants discussed the international marketing potential offered by European Capital of Culture status, ways to improve the efficiency of public procurement procedures, and issues related to transport provision in Liepāja and the municipalities of South Kurzeme and Kuldīga, taking into account the projected increase in international and domestic visitors to the Kurzeme region in 2027.

“In less than a year, Liepāja along with the municipalities of South Kurzeme and Kuldīga will hold the title of European Capital of Culture 2027. Today, together with the responsible institutions, we discussed the preparatory work required so that next year everyone can enjoy an exceptionally diverse programme of cultural and artistic events. For young and old alike. For lovers of the classics and seekers of new horizons. And also for those who seem to have no interest in culture at all. There will be setbacks and challenges. I hope that we will be able to address them creatively and with a sense of humour. May the pride of the people of Kurzeme be shared with the whole of Latvia. May international and local visitors not only discover Liepāja, Kuldīga and South Kurzeme, but continue thinking about them long after returning home. And may everyone who visits Kurzeme see, hear and feel more even after the European Capital of Culture year has come to an end,” said President Edgars Rinkēvičs after the meeting.
