On August 19, President of Latvia Egils Levits met with Vice-Speaker of the Saeima Dagmāra Beitnere Le-Galla in the Riga Castle.
During the meeting, President Levits stressed the significance of the Latvian language as the official language and urged the Parliament to pay special attention to it. The President of Latvia and the Vice-Speaker of the Saeima also discussed the progress of several draft laws, raised issues related to the development of media policy in Latvia, as well as discussed the improvement of the higher education system.
Vice-Speaker of the Saeima Dagmāra Beitnere Le-Galla extended gratitude to President of Latvia Egils Levits for updating Article 52 of the Satversme (Constitution) of the Republic of Latvia stipulating the procedure which state official performs the duties of the President of Latvia and to what extent in his absence.
