On 10 June, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met at the Riga Castle with Raffaele Fitto, Vice-President of the European Commission for Cohesion and Reforms, and Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commissioner for Economy, Productivity, Implementation, and Simplification. During the meeting, the parties discussed Latvia's progress in implementing current EU support instruments as well as the priorities and potential structural changes for the next Multiannual Financial Framework.
“In Latvia’s view, it is essential to increase the overall volume of the next EU Multiannual Financial Framework, while maintaining the Cohesion Policy funds and the Common Agricultural Policy instruments as separate and targeted solutions. The next EU Multiannual Financial Framework must prioritise strengthening security, addressing demographic challenges, and boosting competitiveness, with particular support allocated to the eastern border regions. It is also necessary to continue efforts to reduce administrative burdens for support recipients,” said President Rinkēvičs after the meeting.
