On 31 October, President Edgars Rinkēvičs paid a working visit to Jelgava Municipality, where he met with the municipal leadership to discuss current issues and learned about the operations of several local businesses. The President also visited Eleja Secondary School, met with the Jelgava Municipality Youth Council, and toured Lielvircava Manor.
During the meeting with the leadership of Jelgava Municipality, President Rinkēvičs discussed matters related to the municipal budget, civil protection, access to education, as well as housing support for young families.
At Eleja Secondary School, the President spoke with teachers and support staff about the implementation of inclusive education and the role of teaching assistants in supporting children in the learning process. This helps pupils from diverse backgrounds and with different learning approaches feel welcome and empowered at school. “The essence of inclusive education is the ability to accept every child and to help them feel comfortable among others,” emphasised E. President.
During the visit, President Rinkēvičs learned about the activities of several local companies, including SIA “Dinex Latvija”, SIA “Uppe”, and the social enterprise “Mājas TUVU”. This enterprise provides material support to families with children in need and assistance to socially isolated individuals and young people.
“Jelgava Municipality offers infrastructure suitable for business development and a good environment for accessible education, culture, and social life. The companies we visited and the people we met today are proof that economic growth, innovation, and the resolution of social issues can successfully go hand in hand,” said President Rinkēvičs.
At the conclusion of his visit, the President met with local residents at the Zaļenieki Cultural Centre.
