On 17 October, in recognition of composer’s lifelong creative work and outstanding contribution to the state of Latvia, President of Latvia Egils Levits presented the Certificate of Merit to Zigmars Liepiņš.
‘You have made Latvian culture significantly richer. The production of rock-opera ‘Lāčplēsis’ premiered on 23 August 1988 was one of the catalysts of the Awakening. Your love for Latvia crescendoed as we brought down Skrunda radar station, unveiled the Freedom Monument after reconstruction and when thousands of singers stood on the Song Festival Stage singing your songs,’ says the Certificate of Merit signed by President Levits.
Egils Levits presented the certificate during the 70th birthday concert of the great composer at the Latvian national Opera and Ballet.
