On 1 July, President of Latvia Egils Levits met with administration of NGO ‘Centre Dardedze’ and Cross-Sectoral Coordination Centre in the Riga Castle to discuss child protection and well-being challenges in Latvia.

During the meeting with President Levits, NGO ‘Centre Dardedze’ and Cross-Sectoral Coordination Centre emphasised the lack of coordination between various stakeholders and authorities responsible for child protection policy and family support policy. President recognised that there is a lack of specific horizontal cooperation framework and need to integrate child protection into a broader family support policy.

President and representatives of ‘Centre Dardedze’ and Cross-Sectoral Coordination Centre also discussed Latvia’s possible participation in the UN Pathfinding initiative, which aims to raise awareness, stimulate leadership commitment, galvanize action, and establish a standard of national violence prevention throughout the world. Egils Levits promised to discuss child protection and well-being issues with the Cabinet of Ministers and urge government members to support Latvia’s participation in the UN initiative.
