Valsts prezidents Egils Levits

President of Latvia Egils Levits attended the launch of international Crimean Platform in Kyiv today together with leaders, parliament speakers and foreign ministers of other European countries. President Levits reconfirmed Latvia’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity during today’s summit inaugurating the platform.

‘Russian Federation occupied and broke international law by annexing Crimea and Sevastopol seven years ago. International community will never recognise the legitimacy of Russia’s actions and it will never be forgotten. Latvia is ready to actively support the work of Crimean Platform. Latvia extends its solidarity to Ukraine – we fully support Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity,’ said President Levits in his address at the summit.

Egils Levits stressed that Crimean Platform will be key for constantly reminding international community to keep Crimean de-occupation on the world agenda.

President also noted that current militarisation of the Crimean peninsula is a security threat for Ukraine, Europe, and the whole Black Sea region.

President Levits congratulated his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, and the people of Ukraine with 30th anniversary of independence, which will be widely celebrated across Ukraine on 24 August.

Heads of state, speakers of parliaments and foreign ministers attending the summit will adopt a joint declaration at the conclusion of the summit, urging countries to consolidate their diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring Ukraine’s territorial integrity within the internationally recognised borders.
