On 19 May, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met at Riga Castle with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Anita Anand to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly cooperation in the fields of defence and cybersecurity, as well as support for Ukraine.

President of Latvia expressed gratitude for Canada’s long-term contribution to Latvia’s security and for the Canadian Foreign Minister’s personal contribution to the development of the Canadian-led NATO multinational brigade. E. Rinkēvičs reaffirmed Latvia’s readiness to provide maximum host nation support to effectively facilitate the presence of Canadian and other Allied forces in Latvia.

Discussing preparations for the NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government in Ankara in the beginning of July, the President emphasised the importance of assessing the adaptation of NATO capability targets to the rapid development of modern technologies and, in particular, to ensuring effective air defence, including against the challenges posed by unmanned aerial vehicles in Allied airspace.
