Valsts prezidents apmeklē Latvijas Kultūras akadēmiju

On 3 December, President Edgars Rinkēvičs visited the Latvian Academy of Culture to gain first-hand insight into the Academy’s work, study process, and research activities. The President met with the Academy’s leadership and students and observed the study process of future cinematographers, acting and theatre directing students, as well as students of cultural sociology.

“Today, visiting the Latvian Academy of Culture’s new premises in the Miera Street quarter, I see an important stage in the Academy’s development – to create, over the coming years, a unified, modern study environment, where students from all disciplines can learn and create together. I am pleased that so many young people choose to study at the Academy. This reflects not only the Academy’s strong reputation, but also young people’s understanding of the importance of culture in society and in the future of the country,” said President Rinkēvičs after his visit.

At the end of this year, the Latvian Academy of Culture will celebrate its 35th anniversary – a significant milestone for an institution which, in a relatively short time, has established itself firmly within Latvia’s cultural education system and is gaining increasing international recognition for its projects. The Academy trains a wide range of specialists for the cultural and creative sectors, with a particular focus on preparing professionals in film, theatre, and dance. Over the years, it has helped nurture many talents – directors, actors, researchers, producers, and cultural managers – whose work has broadened the presence of culture both in Latvia and beyond its borders.

The President also viewed the exhibition “Podnieks’ Space-Time” dedicated to film director and key figure of the Latvian Awakening period, Juris Podnieks (1950–1992).
