President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs visited the SLLC Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LEGMC) on 8 September. President of Latvia was briefed about how Centre works with climate, meteorological, geological and air quality data, performs data collection and processing. President Rinkēvičs also discussed early forecasts and specific warnings that were given prior to the storm at the end of August.
“Experts of LEGMC are able to forecast weather changes with relatively high precision, enabling all of us to adjust our plans based on expected weather conditions. I would like to use this opportunity to thank LEGMC staff for storm forecasts and warning at the end of August which helped both services and people prepare for the critical moments and the aftermath of the storm. August storm is a stark reminder of the importance of following weather forecasts in ensuring that everyone is safe,” Edgars Rinkēvičs said.
