On 13 October, President Edgars Rinkēvičs visited “SYNESIS 2026”, an artificial intelligence-enabled civil-military, cross-sector strategic communications exercise organised by the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence.

The President received a briefing from the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence on the strategic context of the exercise, its scenario and objectives. E. Rinkēvičs also observed the exercise in progress, the technologies being used and the interaction between teams from 13 countries in a simulated information environment.

“The role of artificial intelligence in today’s information environment makes it necessary to test and assess, through exercises, its impact on different target audiences and their potential behavioural patterns. Disinformation and the manipulation of the information environment are among the key elements of hybrid threats. It is important that the experience gained through these exercises helps countries improve their ability to respond in the information space, thereby strengthening their preparedness for crisis situations,” the President emphasised.
