On 27 April, President of Latvia Egils Levits and Mrs Andra Levite will visit the Ludza region to meet with municipal, business, education, national defence, culture and public sector leaders and discuss the priorities of the new Ludza region, which was established in 2021. Later that night President of Latvia will take part and address the Latgale Congress in Rēzekne.
After reforms of 2021, Ludza region has become an amalgamation of four regions: Cibla, Kārsava, Ludza and Zilupe. That is why President of Latvia Egils Levits has decided to focus his working visit to the region on inhabitants’ vision for the development of new region in areas like education, business environment, security, culture and local identity, local governance and public participation.
During the visit to Ludza region, Egils Levits will meet with Year 9 pupils of Ludza City Secondary School, Ludza Secondary School 2, Kārsava Secondary School, Zilupe Secondary School and Cibla Secondary School to discuss various aspects of Latvian constitution, Satversme, with youngsters ins cope of awareness raising campaign ‘You, me and Satversme’. Mrs Andra Levite will meet with Ludza region craft artists, teachers and other prominent public figures. First Lady will also visit Ludza Museum of Local History and Culture.
President and First Lady of Latvia will continue their regional visit in Rēzekne where they will lay flowers at the tomb of Francis Trasuns and pay tribute to 115 Latvian army soldiers who died for freedom of Latgale. Later, President and First Lady will go to the Embassy of Latgale, Gors, to take part in the Latgale Congress.
