On 5 May, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met at Riga Castle with members of the Latvian national ice hockey team at the Milan–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games. E. Rinkēvičs thanked the players, coaches, physiotherapists, medical staff, support team, and the federation for representing Latvia at the Milan–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, and wished them success in the upcoming matches at the Ice Hockey World Championship.
“I would truly like to say a big thank you to all of you for the Olympics – both for the emotions you gave us, and also for the things I learned that I did not previously know about ice hockey. But the Olympics are now in the past. Ahead of us is the World Championship, which will begin very soon – in less than ten days. I wish all the participants success, resilience, and the very best of results. I am happy to see that a very strong next generation team is emerging – the U18 players,” said the President of Latvia.
