The President of Latvia highly appreciated the visit of the President of the European Parliament to Latvia ahead of the European Parliament elections in June. The officials agreed on the need to encourage the citizens of Latvia to be active and to exercise their civic rights to influence the EU agenda.
E. Rinkēvičs welcomed the European Council's decisions on the EU's enlargement policy, in particular drawing attention to the opening of accession negotiations with Ukraine. The President expressed his appreciation for R. Metsola's strong stance in support of Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression and in advancing Ukraine's integration into the EU.
